GIRLS TOURNAMENT

Saturday saw the first football tournament under the Pendlebury United FC banner, formerly the Salford Super Sports day, we were asked to take over the running of the event when Salford Enviroment services decided they couldn't continue.
The Enviroment team did however provide the marques and toilet facilities as well as the services of their staff, the park rangers provided face painters and gave visitors the chance to take part in other sports and activities.
On the football side we held an under 12 girls competition and a mini under 9's comp. The girls had only 5 teams after the late withdrawal of 1 team but we welcomed Medlock Rangers, Walshaw Sports and Beechfield Utd, Pendlebury split their successful team into 2 six a side teams,Panthers and Pumas. In a round robin competition all the games proved to be highly entertaining with all teams giving as good as the got, the Pendlebury sides ended the tournament by facing each other in the final, with the Panthers side coming out 1-0 winners with Charley Gilligan grabbing the winner.
In the under 9's competition we also entered 2 teams this time at 5 a side, these were joined by two teams from Monton Amateurs, Lightning and Thunder, another good comp this time seeing the 2 Monton sides facing each other in the final again being decided by a single goal, this time scored in extra time.
We were also treated to a special display game from our mini academy players, who gave their heart and soul.
With the sun beaming on us it seemed to be a great success that hopefully we can build on. Special thanks goes to Henry Hill who provided the fun fair for the day and to Lewis Barlow, Colin & Phillip Carter who refereed the tournaments for us and to all the Pendlebury coaches, players and parents who came to both help with the day and to support the event.
Thanks to everybody and we hope you all enjoyed the day
